In November 2014 I was asked to design a one off custom snowboard for my good friend Andrew, aka “Squirrel”. He had his own particular specifications for the board itself but wanted me to design something unique for the top sheet. Once approved, the final design was sent to the team at Kindred on Vancouver Island who brought the whole thing beautifully to life.
The top sheet was hand cut from paper thin sheets of black walnut, maple, mahogany and sassafrass, all set into a cherry background. For all the technical nerds, the board itself is a 162 directional mid-stiff flex all mountain board with carbon fibre strengthening. It has an early rise nose with camber underfoot and traditional style tail – great for on piste and also translates well in deep snow.
The snowboard is now finished and I’ll be personally delivering it to Andrew at his home in Southern France. All he has to do now is decide whether to ride it in The Alps or hang it on his wall.
